GUNUNG TAHAN

بِسْــــــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِارَّحْمَنِ ارَّحِي

It is not a difficult decision to make. Being the tallest mountain in Peninsula Malaysia, Gunung Tahan looks more appealing!

Last year after I climbed Mount Kinabalu. I was wondering what else I'd do this year and Gunung Tahan was never in the picture. To me, it's a very difficult and challenging mountain and the fact that I have to camp for 4 or 5 days in a row didn't appeal to me. However, I always keep my options open and when there were hiking trips planned by Facebook's Hiking Networking Group to Gunung Yong Yap and Gunung Ulu Sepat, without much hesitation, I confirmed my participation!

First thing that came to my mind after confirming the trips was I needed to to buy tent and good hiking backpack (50 liter?). I have never done any hiking trip that requires camping, let alone for more than 2 nights! So, I don't have such backpack and tent! I always use my day backpack all the while!

I'll buy both tent and backpack soon and hopefully I'd have everything by early March.

Other than preparing for the equipment, I also need to prepare physically and mentally! So, it's time now to plan for the tough day hiking trip like Gunung Nuang and Gunung Ledang! For Nuang, may be I'll camp overnight at Kem Lolo!

It's going to be mentally challenging as I'll be away from civilisation for 4 nights! I just want to picture in my mind the facts that I enjoy the activities, I'll be busy taking pictures, enjoying the flora and fauna, putting my tent and dismantling it the next day, preparing the meals and not to forget doing my 'big business' in the jungle!

I am really excited about the whole thing and the fact that I'll cover 2 of G7s this year, and may be 4, who knows? Upon completion of G7s, may be I'll do what a friend did on his graduation day, 'berguling-guling' on top of the mountain!

Yup, G7s here I come!

Dr. Sam, thank you. I'm excited about the whole thing. I had the opportunity to climb Gunung Tahan so many years ago but I never did it. It's time now to take the challenge! I
