Bukit Tabur - 2011

I haven't been to Bukit Tabur for a long time.  I don't think I have been there this year.  I decided to go there with a friend a few weeks ago.  When I reached there, there were a group of hikers from Singapore who reached the starting point almost at the same time with us.  Later on I found out that they are related, a mother and a son, her sister and a niece!  I hope I got it right!  I promised that I'd put up our picture together here in my blog!  It's nice knowing you guys.  if you decide to go to Sg. Chilling waterfall, please let me know!

Bukit Tabur - Raya 2010

It's my first trip to Bukit Tabur with my fellow Taburians after puasa month! It's a long break for all of us from hiking activities. It's now time to resume it!

Three of us have made Bukit Tabur our playground. Whenever we don't have anything planned for the weekend and we feel like doing hiking and rock climbing, Bukit Tabur will be our choice! This week, two colleagues joined us. Both of them enjoyed the experience and they don't mind coming back again!

BUKIT TABUR - WEST SIDE (Update)

Yes! I went to Tabur West today with another two colleagues. I know that I haven't fully recovered as yet. I had to do it as I haven't been exercising for the past two weeks. Missed my gym exercise and no sport activities over the last two weekends.

There were a lot of hikers today and it was like a carnival up there! Every now and then, there were human traffic jams as everyone took their turn to do their rock climbing, up and down the steep slopes.

We were going slow too and we stopped a lot to enjoy the breathtaking views and to snap pictures! As opposed to the popular choice of going down through the orchard, we came back using the same route! It was challenging and it was fun! However, the weather was a bit too hot for me and I could feel that my body temperature rose again!

By the time, we had our lunch at the Melawati Hawkers Centre, I started sneezing and had to excuse myself to get into the car earlier after completing my lunch!

Upon reaching home, after taking shower and zohor prayers, I popped in panadol and piriton and went to sleep. I dozed off until 6.30pm!

I really hope that I got over this flu and fever bugs by this week as I need to be at the top of my health when I go for my Tahan Challenge!

BUKIT TABUR - WEST SIDE (NOT WELL)

بِسْــــــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِارَّحْمَنِ ارَّحِي

I am still not well as yet.

Finally, I went to see our in-house Dr. yesterday and told her that I gave up on self healing. I didn't take that much of medicine as I didn't feel the need for it, I didn't have high fever or bad flu. And no body ache too! I thought it'd just go away after 2 or 3 days.

10 days have gone by and I am still not okay as yet. I am now on antibiotic for 5 days. If I still haven't recovered yet after taking the full course of the anti-biotic, I think I need to see a Specialist. I hope not!

This reminds me of my trip to Mt. Kinabalu last year. A few weeks prior to the climbing day, I had bad gastritis and it lasted a while until I had to cancel some of the hiking trips planned as part of the training. I had to OGDS scope and when I was there on the mountain, I had to make a few stops just to go to the toilet!

And I am now praying that I'd be okay and can do some more hiking trips before leaving for Merapuh on May 27.

For that I visualise that I am okay by Friday morning and by Saturday I can go to Bukit Tabur West Side. Insyaallah!

BUKIT TABUR - WEST SIDE

بِسْــــــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِارَّحْمَنِ ارَّحِي
My first Bukit Tabur trip with my colleagues this year ended up with only one colleague and 4 other friends including 3 Japanese guys.

It was meant for guys only as I refused to be responsible for the ladies. After Peak 9, Bukit Tabur offers some difficult challenges where we'd have to do rock climbing. There were people who turned back at this level as it's too challenging to them. The pictures below can't reflect the real challenges up there for us but they can give some ideas! I had to to keep the camera in my backpack when the trail became very steep, hence not much pictures too!

One of the hikers (not in my team) going up the steep trail. One of the easier rock climbing challenges.

The above picture was taken right after Peak 9. My first two trips there, I didn't dare to scale up the slope as it was too steep for me and at the same time, I didn't have the experience as yet. After a while, I felt challenged by it as I noticed other people could just do it with ease! Once I managed to get it done, there was turning back and I enjoyed the West Side because of the rock climbing.

Loofah gourd - this was taken on the way down, upon reaching the first occupied house on the hill.

While waiting for the rest to reach the finish line, I took the above picture. It could be better! And I still don't know how to make the full use of the camera that I just bought.
I really don't have anything planned as yet for the rest of the year. Amongst others, I am planning to go up to Gunung Rajah, Pine Tree Hill, Gunung Yong Yap and Gunung Ulu Sepat. At least I cover 2 of G7 this year. Or may be 4? See how it goes!

BUKIT TABUR - ACCIDENT

SH respects those super fit people who continue with their hiking activities even during Ramadhan, fellow bloggers, you know who you are. As for SH, he took a month break and he resumed this hobby on Saturday, 7th day of Raya.

Where to go? The location is none other than Bukit Tabur, West side. He went there with a friend at around 6.30am. While it was still dark, he had the torch light on and started the hiking immediately. As usual, he was not the first, there were 3 groups ahead of him.

It's the second time around that he completed the hiking going through Peak 10 and coming down at a fruit orchard nearby. It was quite fast as we completed it within 3 hours as he didn't take that many breaks to rest and take picture. His hiking partner, it's his first hiking experience, was very fit and never complained at all. SH was glad that his partner enjoyed it as well.

Up on the hill SH had the pleasure of meeting two fellow hikers. One of them is a regular there and he goes up to the hill every Saturday. SH met him several times and always greeted him with the standard hi-how-are-you thingy. Not knowing that he is a Muslim and a Tuan Haji for that matter. Minta maaf Tuan Haji, all the while SH thought he was an Indian. Apparently, he used to participate in marathon. No wonder, he seemed to be at ease going up and down the hill on regular basis.

Can see Batu Cave clearly from Peak 10.
SH also met another hiker, a Malay guy that he thought was Chinese. He looked very Chinese and at first SH was impressed that he spoke Malay fluently and he was also in a group with other young Chinese guys. We promised to keep in touch and been trying to locate him in Facebook but couldn't find him. Anyway, SH met him again at the parking area and was surprised that he injured himself on the way down. He said somehow he felt his knees were weak on the way down. It reminds SH that accidents can happen anywhere and to be very careful in my his hiking activities!

BUKIT TABUR

I went up to Bukit Tabur, it's the second time this year. This time around, I am taking my eldest son with me. I was leading our colleagues, for some of them, it's their first hiking activity after so many years! There were 13 of us.

Bukit Tabur is located behind Taman Melawati, near a dam of SYABAS. It doesn't sound familiar? How about Bukit Melawati at Taman Melawati? The place where two paediatricians died? Yes... that's the one.

How to go there?

We are using MRR2 Highway and exit at Taman Melawati. From there, we passed BHP Petrol and shop houses and reached a roundabout. We took 3 o'clock turn and drove through until we reached another round about. Here, we took 12 o'clock turn. when we reached a T-Junction, we turned to the right and another right turn immediately after that. We passed behind some house and big bungalows on the left until we reached the gate to the dam. We gathered there!

The Treks

We started climbing at 8.00am. At the the beginning, the slope is steep and we passed typical rain forest area but it's not very thick. A few of us were already complaining saying it's too steep and they were not prepared for this outdoor activity.

There'd be a little bit of rock climbing. It could be dangerous, so be very careful. It's not advisable for children below 13 years old.

8 of us reached Peak 9, our target. The final challenge was going up through the rope to go back to Peak 9. Had to help the two ladies in our group to go up. We all enjoyed the trip, of course.
It took us slightly more than 3 hours to complete the climb up & down. Luckily, it was a cloudy day, it wasn't that hot at all. For me and my son, we finished 1.5 liters of isotonic drinks.
